Seasonal Full-time Animal Care Technician


Austin Wildlife Rescue is hiring full-time seasonal Animal Care Technicians (ACT) to work at both at our rehabilitation center in Elgin (located between Austin and Bastrop off FM 969) and our intake center in Austin. ACTs are responsible for providing care to native Texas wildlife that are orphaned, injured, or sick. This is a demanding, fast-paced, and sometimes stressful job that requires physical labor and working in all types of conditions. Staff are expected to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Daily responsibilities include feeding animals, cleaning cages and outdoor enclosures, and providing basic medical care as advised by a veterinarian. ACTs will also answer the telephone hotline and interact with the public by handling drop-offs and questions. Seasonal positions begin in March and extend through October.



  • A bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, zoology, or another animal-related field preferred

  • Tetanus and pre-exposure rabies vaccinations up to date at time of hire

  • Wildlife rehabilitation experience preferred

  • Applicants should possess a positive attitude, strong work ethic, ability to work in stressful situations, and work well independently and in a team setting

Part-time Community Outreach Coordinator

Austin Wildlife Rescue is looking for an individual that will serve as a part-time Community Outreach Coordinator. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Present educational programs to schools and community groups

  • Table public events

  • Serve as the volunteer coordinator

  • Grow and develop AWR's education outreach


A qualified applicant is:

  • Comfortable creating and giving presentations to children and adults

  • Familiar with, or willing to learn about, wildlife rehabilitation

  • A self-starter willing to create new programs for a variety of age groups

Salary: $12/hour

Part-time Administrative Assistant

Austin Wildlife Rescue is looking for an individual that will serve as a part-time Administrative Assistant. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Weekly data entry

  • Coordinate donor acknowledgement

  • Assist with payroll

  • Assist with special projects/events

  • Assist with creating/designing promotional material

A qualified applicant is:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Detail-oriented

  • Familiar with donor databases (preferred, but not required)

Salary: $11/hour.

2020 Summer Internships - We will start accepting applicants in February

Austin Wildlife Rescue offers paid and unpaid summer internships from May to August. Paid interns are required to be rabies vaccinated in order to work with vector species such as raccoons and skunks. Interns work 20-30 hours per week and gain hands-on experience with native Texas wildlife, interacting with the public, and assisting with animal intakes. Interns, like all staff, will answer the telephone hotline throughout the day and assist callers with questions about wildlife.


  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Pursuing a degree in related field of study (ex. wildlife, conservation, biology)

  • Willing to work flexible hours including weekend and evening shifts

  • Willing to work at both the Elgin and the Austin locations

  • Positive and team-focused attitude
