Wildlife Care Internship
Our internships are based at our main rehabilitation center in Elgin, TX (111 Elbow Bend, Elgin, TX 78621). Interns learn a wide variety of skills, including syringe feeding squirrels, tube feeding opossums, hand feeding songbirds and doves, cleaning and setting up enclosures, and proper handling techniques for wildlife. Interns learn correct diets across all species of native Texas wildlife — from fur to feathers to scales.
Interns work two to three 10-hour shifts per week (20–30 hours total). Days are set, but shift timing varies, so interns should be available across morning and evening windows (for example 6am–4pm, 10am–8pm, and up to 11am–9pm during peak season).

Current opening —
Summer is our peak intake season. Every summer, thousands of songbirds come to our facility for care, and this is when we need interns most and when most placements run. Summer internships run May through mid-August; the end date is firm, and interns must commit to work through it.
Fall and spring placements are also considered. If you're interested in another season, please inquire about availability. Because credit-bearing placements typically require university approval the prior semester, applying early is important!
To apply, send a resume and cover letter to admin@austinwildliferescue.org and indicate the position and season you're interested in.
